• GOLD Medal again!
One of the major achievements for Cilantro Culinary Academy this year was the privilege to be invited to represent Malaysia to participate in the "4th Angel Yeast Cup Contest for Chinese Fermented Dim Sum" in Guang Zhou, China. Representing Malaysia were assistant manager - Chef Lily, and Dim Sum Chef Instructor - Chef Wai.
As representing of Malaysia, the Cilantro team showcased the unique cuisine of Malaysia through the theme "Taste of Malaysia". A range of local flavours featured such as Durian Lau Sa, Black Sesame, and Purple Sweet Potato Boat to name a few. 14 teams competed in the event in groups of two. The challenging part was that the participants had to complete 10 items within 4 hours. Each item were carefully hand-made, patience and precision was the key as a slightest error would be very noticeable in the eye of the experts.
After a gruelling 4 hours of baking and assembling the dim sum, Cilantro team had emerged as the champion of the contest. Both Chefs were suprised to hear the results, as Chef Lily recalls "I did not expect to win it as we were competing against Chefs from China who are familiar with their own traditional foods". Chef Wai shared his experience stating that "We are suprised but satisfied at the same time, as it is a great achievement for us".
Cilantro Culinary Academy has once again proven The Academy has a strong and commited team which nurtures aspiring Chefs to fulfil their passion and dream.
